Joes Hill Fire Evacuations Lifted

Evacuations for the Joes Hill Fire in Black Canyon City will be lifted as of 6:00 p.m. 5/28/17. The Salvage yard and access to the area near the salvage yard will remain closed until further notice. All power has been restored to the area. The Red Cross Shelter at Canon Elementary School will be closing down tonight. The Department of Forestry and Fire Management, along with Daisy Mountain Fire Department have taken unified command of the Joes Hill Fire. More than 200 fire personnel from local cooperating agencies, along with DFFM are assisting in suppression of the fire.
The Joes Hill Fire started Saturday, May 27th, at approximately 1600, 2 miles N/NE of Black Canyon City. The incident was reported initially as a fire within a commercial equipment storage facility. Local cooperators, including Daisy Mountain Fire, Black Canyon City Fire and other Phoenix-area fire departments responded to the initial call. Crews were able to contain the blaze at the storage facility along with a small area burning into wildland. At approximately 0100, the fire started back up under suspicious circumstances at the storage facility and jumped earlier containment lines into additional surrounding wildland. Multiple structures were threatened forcing the evacuation of roughly 20 homes in the area. The fire is now estimated at 50 acres and has transitioned to an extended attack fire. Evacuations are in place for two miles around the area of the fire. There is no plan at this time as to when to lift evacuations due to fire risk. No permanent structures outside of the storage facility have been damaged.

Wildfire in Black Canyon City - Mandatory Evacuations North of Tara Springs and East of Gayla Lane in Black Canyon City. Shelter Location is at Canon Elementary School in Black Canyon City at 34630 School Loop Road, Black Canyon.

Multiple agencies are on scene working the fire. At this time road closures are Squaw Valley Road and Mud Springs, also Tara Springs at Melani Lane.
